So, this place. Here are my specific impressions (10=best): Service: 10 Ambience: 8 Mastro's Manhattan cocktail: 7 Chopped wedge salad: 7 Chef's Cut NY strip steak: 5 Bone-in rib eye steak: 5 Creamed spinach: 10 Garlic mashed potatoes: 8 If you have money and calories to burn and just want to have a good time, go for it. But if you're going there to eat steak, choose another place. Steaks are the main food event here, and they had little flavor. For this price, they should be way better.

Yet we had a wonderful dinner in the Penthouse at Mastro's. Our waiter whose name was Paul was excellent. He was attentive and there when we needed him but did not hover at all. He was knowledgeable and very pleasant. While eating dinner we had a great opportunity to hear a beautiful singer playing the piano.. All in all it was a wonderful night.

My husband and I were very excited to dine here for our anniversary while here in LA because we had heard so many great things about it. The restaurant is beautiful and our service started out really good and then went south. After our food was brought out, it was almost like our server disappeared. She did not check on us, nor did any one of the other servers that appeared to be working in tandem with her. We waited for at least 30 minutes before someone came to ask if we needed our food boxed to go. No one ever acknowledged our anniversary until I asked for a dessert menu and told our server that it was our anniversary. She then said “oh I was going to give you guys a dessert for free” like an after thought. There as a couple next to us who were also celebrating their anniversary and their greater acknowledged it when he greeted them. I then asked for a manager and I expressed to him our disdain and his response was lackluster and lacked empathy. He offered us champagne but we e had...

He then asked me how to make it better to which I replied “you’re the manager, you tell me”. We were not expecting a handout nor anything free but rather a sincere apology with a promise to be better in the future. We had dined at Catch LA the night prior and from the door to the table, to our exit it was 5 star and I didn’t really expect that from a trendy spot but the service and food were impeccable. I had the bone-in ribeye at Mastros and at $., it missed the mark on flavor but it was a good cut and prepared well. The creamed spinach was delicious. Hopefully my experience was just a one off but I would be remiss if I did not being this to the attention of this establishment."
