"My Orthopedic Physician, Dr. Michael J. Smith, referred me to Dr. Swick in for evaluation of a possible "total ankle replacement". My right ankle was fractured in a traumatic head-on collision and fused with the use of screws //. The next several decades involved a series of braces, pain medication and modified sedentary life style. Dr. Swick was very diligent with pre-surgical evaluation, review of x-rays, history and scheduling of diagnostic CT scans. After a thorough evaluation it was determined that my previously crushed right ankle would be a candidate for total ankle replacement in . It was my decision to wait another 4 years to avoid the "down time" following surgery with no standing, walking or driving. The arthritic pain became too much to bear. Dr. Swick re-evaluated my case with x-rays and an updated CT Scan. The prosthetic parts were custom ordered for a precise surgical fitting. The procedure was completed //. Following a period of "no weight bearing", physical therapy was pursued. The ankle is now "COMPLETELY pain free". Range of motion is equivalent to the non-injured (normal) left ankle. Physical Therapy was successful within the first 4 weeks; achieved near normal weight bearing and walking following the second 4 weeks. 9 months post operative my wife and I traveled to Spain, France, Monte Monaco, Italy and Greece. We visited Pompeii outside of Naples, Italy. We walked over , steps uphill, downhill and over the coble stone streets from AD. We walked over 5, steps through the Vatican Museums. We walked through St. Peters Square and the streets of Rome. Over two weeks of walking tours, including the leaning tower of Pisa near Florence, Italy; the right ankle was "PAIN FREE". Dr. Sick evaluated the last year of progress and discharged this patient. The surgical skills of Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Swick, would be recommended without hesitation. My only regret is my own procrastination from through which delayed the surgery and eventual pain relief. My quality of life has improved with walking my dog, taking walks with my wife and enjoying much more active life style and vacation."
"I had a reconstructive surgery on my left foot. I had already been walking on the inside of my foot and was flat footed and in so much pain. I didnt believe that id ever walk without pain. After visiting Dr. Swick and learning about what he could do to help, I had surgery Nov of last year was told the recovery time was up to a year. Seven months later I am walking with min to no pain and able to actually walk and stand all day. I will ve forever grateful to Dr. Swick for helping me have a better quality of life."
"Wow! I am able to walk without left foot pain! On my first visit Matthew Swick M.D. took x-rays, examined my feet and explained I was putting my weight on the outside of my feet. Dr. Swick quickly got to a solution- the poor man's Orthotics($) to even my weight distribution. For years I have been having calluses removed which only addressed the symptoms! My fourth week check-up x-ray showed a stress fracture healing which made it visible. I am in a surprisingly easy to wear comfortable shoe boots until healed. Thank you Matthew Swick MD- Tampa Magazine #1 Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Surgeon! Kathy G."
"Dr. Swick is a superb diagnostician and communicates clearly with his patients. I began with Dr. Swich because of an ankle issue that he quickly diagnosed. I was very happy to learn that he also specialized in knees. He was the first of many doctors to give me a detailed description my osteoarthritis and that I was a good candidate for knee replacement. He did the surgery 5 months ago and, with lots of physical therapy, I am beginning to lead an active life."
"I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is thoughtful, caring and an excellent doctor who takes pride in his work. I had a serious debilitating injury and was not a pre-existing patient. He worked me into his schedule, being a foot specialist, and got me into surgery within hours. Despite the speed, everything was well taken care of and his nursing staff was supportive and meticulous. Since then, he has been caring through the recovery, including calling me after hours on a Friday, after hearing I had a drug reaction. Medically he is a wonderful doctor but also you can tell he is a caring person. I am grateful for him during this extremely difficult time."
