"Great gym BAD cancellation policy. You have to go in in person to cancel a membership. Seems kind of gimmicky."
"My mother and sister received a “belay class” from Blake, one of the employees at the Dallas location, wherein they were taught NO knots nor how to check existing knots for safety, were not instructed on different belay devices, were not taught climbing commands, and were not told about possibility of fingers, clothing, or other items being pulled into a belay device. The instructor was extremely rude and disrespectful and did not allow me to watch past the first few minutes. After their minute “class,” they were asked to belay one another even though they were clearly very uncomfortable with this. Additionally, neither party was interested in this class, which did not include a gym tour. When I asked about a knot and whether it was tied safely (the tail was less than a quarter inch long), he became visibly upset and red in the face and told me that I “don’t know everything.” I find this very unprofessional and dangerous given the inherent danger of the sport and seriousness of belay instruction. Tldr: if you want to learn how to climb safely, avoid this gym at all costs. Plenty of better and cheaper places in the area."
"Always great indoor climbing/bouldering, excellent staff, and lots of friendly members. I've been a member for more than years and made lots of great friends. Summit Dallas and Summit Plano are my main gyms. Different vibe and facilities at each gym so choose the place that matches your spirit and enjoy an excellent workout."
"Too many waivers forms to fill out. A day pass which includes gear is about $. Lot of options to test and try your climbing skills. Seems more suited to teens and adults than kids unless they really love climbing. We had a younger kid with us who spent more time gearing up and gave up climbing after mins. One staff member was helpful and tried to give good tips on climbing. Gave them 3 stars for the help and overall facility unrelated to our experience. Not sure we will do this again."
"I have been climbing in Summit gyms since November , and still am. The gym experiences have always been great. However, I wish the staffs are trained in basic EMT treatments for sprains, torn skins, etc. -- which are quite common for beginners. I have personally witnessed sprained ankle and dislocated elbow by non-members, to which the staffs only stand around and take notes while the injured moans with pain. This is one area I think the owners should really work to improve."
