St. Cornelius Chapel is temporarily closed due to a roof leak as of 2/19/2022. This chapel is on Governors Island and no longer functions as a religious house of worship, despite being linked with Trinity Church. Building now functions as a space for public art when not closed.

Chapel of St. Cornelius the Centurion is an Episcopal church is located at 12 Evans Road, Governors Island, New York, NY. The original chapel dates back to 1846 when the Rev. John McVickar, DD, was appointed chaplain for the Army servicemen and their families on the island. With the financial support from Trinity Church, in 1868, the chapel became part of Trinity Parish. It was restored in 1905.

What wonderful memories. Was an acolyte at St. Cornelius Chapel from September 1957 to August 1962. Remember Father Francis and Chaplain Alister C. Anderson. Chaplain Anderson was present at the airport in Honolulu the day I left for Navy boot camp - San Diego in 1966. Sad to say he passed away several years ago in Maryland.
