I am a longtime customer and big fan of REI. This is my go to store and I have had nothing but great experiences here. Unfortunately had a really unfortunate interaction with someone who identified herself as the "manager" just now. I had a simple request to speak to the bike shop to see if they could fit in a small tune up while I was due to pick up 2 new bikes I purchased, but was told no and that I could not even speak to the bike shop and hung up on. Kind of shocked -- must have been a bad day or off moment for this employee?

I've been a member for over twenty years. It's sad to see how it has degraded into just another clothes store with rows of unorganized racks. You pay list price for a poor selection. They force you to go online to get many standard items, and once you're online you might as well order from somewhere with a searchable site and better prices. It makes me sad. Most of my wardrobe is from REI. I hate having to find a new place for clothes. Here's hoping they can turn it around. ☹️

Always impressive in their thoughtful selection and good values, REI has been a stalwart icon of serious and not so serious outdoor enthusiasts for more than 50 years. Once more, it's a co-op, members get a vote, get discounts, and support a business model that isn't exclusively about profit. I love that you can rent things and try stuff out before you make a permanent investment. Their staff is always helpful and often pretty knowledgeable.

REI is always a great place to shop for anything outdoorsy. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. If you are new to a sport they won't try to sell you more than you need, but if you are already an expert and have detailed questions they can handle those too.
