FAQ:
"To make this review easy I’ll go in order or the photos and end with an overall service review. 1. Kothu paratha: this is easily the best kothu paratha I’ve had in the United States. The flavor is super authentic and the kuruma side is superb. Highly recommend this. 2. Mixed Tandoori Platter: this was a sampler plate featuring cauliflower, paneer, and mushroom. This was much more subtle than the other food items we ordered in flavor and not my favorite. We had some left over and when I heated it up and had it again it was much better. 3. Veg Thali: this is your standard South Indian veg thali flavors were was expected and the selection of items was good. Would recommend for a full meal. 4. Chili paratha: this was also first class chili paratha. Really good level of spicy with crispy paratha cuts. The green pepper was a little undercooked. 5. Onion Rava Masala Dosa: the masala was much better than other Indian places featuring more veggies and spice. The mint chutney paired with this was really fresh tasting. 6. Sambar Vada: a Tamil classic this Sambar vada was really good. I would put it second to Saravana Bhavan, it was only missing some fresh onions. Overall the service was fine nothing crazy. I will say our wait times were much longer than expected, but the flavor of the food made the wait well worth it. I suspect they had to make most of this fresh too since the wait was so long (that’s just my theory). I would also just stay clear of some of the North Indian items to guarantee good taste as this is a south indian place. I give this place a 9/ for an authentic Vegetarian Tamil restaurant. I would recommend it to other and def will be coming back."
"One of the best South Indian / Tamil restaurants that I’ve visited in Austin. I don’t think the negative reviews truly reflect the taste of the food that we ate. This restaurant has a wide menu, one wouldn’t find some of the items in any other restaurant. The owner of the restaurant served our table - so I could ask questions about the chef. The chef is from India, the spices/ masala are sourced from the real “Namma veedu Vasantha Bhavan” in Chennai - so the food is as authentic as it can get. We ordered the idiyappam kothu, small onion podi uthappam and chilly parotta. Everything tasted really good. The chutneys were a bit cold but tasty. Sambhar tasted just like you taste in any good restaurant in Tamil Nadu. The ambience is good too. We’ll definitely be coming back!"
"Food is very good. Definitely undeserving of so many negative reviews going around in yelp. I was very skeptical of trying it after reading the reviews and seeing it was empty when entering but feeling good that i took a chance. Quiet a few items were not available from the menu, thats why 4 star but whatever was available was good. Tried ghee button idly(sorry no pics as we were super hungry), masala papad, rava masala onion dosa and malai momos. Sambar was really good; not all chutneys were. Momos were not typical tasting, but good. Wont hesitate to go there again to try more stuff."
"We tried spl veg meals in weekend. The quantity was very good. The kesari was not great. Too much ghee and too sticky. All the curries tasted really good. Chapathi was soft. Rice was perfect. Curd was excellent. We had ordered ala carte paneer for my kid. Felt it would have tasted better with a little more salt but paneer was very soft inside and crispy outside. The restaurant was pretty much empty so no worries about social distancing. Lot of pick ups were going on."
"Totally loved the food . The taste was exactly like the Vasanta Bhavan in Chennai. Went for a Dine In and enjoyed the dinner. Love their Paneer Dosa , mixed pakoda, Ghee Podi Dosa and Podi Oothappam. Tried their meals too and every item was good.. Waiting to try more. Price is reasonable and taste is very yummy."
