"My personal experience with NAMI on a national and local basis was, is and will be as a mental health services recipient. But also as a trained speaker, educator and advocate for better services and support which has yet to manifest from the millions, if not billions of dollars still pouring into this organization. I am not against these efforts to provide more comprehensive assistance for people looking for speedy and permanent recovery however, having made my own way back to mental health, from an initial diagnosis of Paranoid Type Schizophrenia, I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of inquiry and the relative ease with which they have refrained from utilizing my skills as an activist and advocate. Not to mention the secret meetings I've had with various professionals in the mental health field which have not yet produced the tangible, concrete methods I've shared with them in those meetings. Perhaps they've yet to realize the personal implications of agreeing with me in private only to return to the ineffectual practices of their profession, the3ir agencies, and their employers. This is more than enough evidence to be suspicious of the sound mind they present to the public as professionals, and even more concerning than that... We will all eventually be forced to extrapolate the increase in America's cognitive deterioration, denial and dissonance beyond ourselves, as we watch greater numbers of our young and old become disturbed away from the emotional connections they have with us, and each other. In many more cases, the emotional connection needed by children, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, grandfathers and grandmothers are becoming violently disturbed, and dysfunctional. NAMI has not sufficiently discussed or addressed why 1 in 5 FAMILIES have now become, 1 in 4 PEOPLE experiencing mental and emotional disorders. I was forced to understand my recovery as reconnecting to those who refuse to return to their own "humanity." Will You."
