FAQ:
"Called last week and talked to a lady over the phone and took my information. She said that someone will get back with me shortly. It took 3 days before Billy contacted me via email. I emailed the information he requested and never heard from him again. I called the office and the lady stated that someone will get back with me with the contact information of Billy. I asked if she would contact a different contractor because Billy lacks normal communication. She said that she will, but never happened. I contacted H Alex Q and they responded in less than one hour. They went to the house the next day and gave me a fair estimate and started working the following day. Do not waste your time with Ms handyman."
"My honest review is they are very good at really basic fixes. My problem with that is most customers are not calling for things they can do themselves. I'm sorry for being blunt but I can hang a fixture myself. If you require anything electrical wiring related or plumbing, save yourself the hassle and go with an electrician and plumber. Frustrated because these guys were fantastic 3 years ago when we used them."
"Technicians did a good job at finding the source of the leak in my roof and mending it. Just make sure you know this company is charge by the hour (1 hour minimum), not the service, and that you have at least an hours worth of work. I’d mentioned putting up gutter guards (quick snap in process) when the technician first got there if they had time and he said he wouldn’t have time. That’s likely because they were an half an hour late to the job, worked for mins, but wrote on my invoice that they worked an hour. I spoke with the owner about this and he mentioned it was likely they wrote the start time in before they got there but that’s not likely because the technicians were confused as to who was doing the paperwork at the end of the service. All in all, they worked for mins, said they didn’t have time for my other relatively quick job, and said they worked an hour. I wish I’d known about the 1 hour minimum. I thought I was quoted for the service that was being performed which ended up being a quick fix. If you work by the hour, please give me an hours worth of your time. Lesson learned."
"I liked the workman and I liked the work that he performed very much. I would have given Chris a 5 start review if the experience with him had been the quality of experience I had with the whole company. Unfortunately, I had issues on how the job was billed as well as the difficulty in getting them to be upfront on how they billed it. When we talked initially, the agreement that they had was very straightforward. You pay them for the hours and the materials, which seems very reasonable. When I was talking to the person in the office when scheduling the job, I mentioned that I might pick up the paint as we were trying to match it to something specific. She said that this was fine but if we didn't it was no big deal as the workman would pick up the materials needed anyway. When the job was over and I saw the invoice, all the materials purchased were just in one line item and for what seemed like a lot of money for what I knew was not a huge amount of stuff. I asked for the receipts which I was told I couldn't have. I asked for a breakdown of materials which they gave me reluctantly and after I stuck to my guns and insisted on getting before I would pay the invoice, eventually they sent me a breakdown of costs for the different items. It turns out that they mark up the material costs about %. I paid the invoice in full but I don't have to be happy about how they conduct this part of their business. The markups are not something they are upfront about at any stage of the the process and it gave me a very negative feeling of the overall transaction with this company. While I would use Chris the handyman who performed the work any day of the week as he was great, I won't use Mr. Handyman again. Lessons learned. It's a shame really, as otherwise it would have been a good review. How it's sold. Hours worked+materials. Reality. Hours worked+other fees+materials x2 I would like to say that I gave a negative review in error to the wrong Mr. Handyman franchise which I have corrected but can't delete but I changed it to reflect that I never used them and that it was % my error and nothing to do with them"
"Mr. Handyman was on time, courteous and professional. I needed someone to install a new storm door before the holidays. I appreciate that Billy was able to be flexible and fit my job into his schedule with short notice. The installation of the door was quick, reasonably priced and the door looks great! I will definitely use Mr. Handyman for other work that I need help with. Lori from Zebulon"
