"I took beginner lessons with Serge. He’s a great combination of laid back and drill instructor. He’s highly knowledgeable and very good at teaching."
"If you are looking to learn kiteboarding and you came across Brandon @ KGB, stop googling and sign up immediately. You won’t find a better instructor elsewhere. All you need to learn from KGB is just a wetsuit and yourself. Brandon and his team takes care of everything else - from gears to scheduling. More importantly, all lessons are jet ski supported - Brandon will ride you out to where the wind is the most ideal, and stay with you to ensure safety and maximize learning time. This makes all the difference. Without a jet ski, you’ll be spending half of the lesson time hauling the kite upwind (the “walk of shame”). Oh btw did I mention the winter trips to South Florida and Texas? Ask KGB about it and thank me later."
"Brandon and Danny are awesome! Jumped into kiting this year and, although they’ve been super busy teaching all the other zealous students like myself, they run a great school and take the time each person needs. Bought a 5 lesson package and couldn’t be more satisfied!"
"I did their camp in La Ventana this year. They are friendly and have solid hospitality but their instruction is exceptionally poor. I worked with 3 different instructors. One who seemed to have no idea how to teach or any plan of progression. Another who communicated well. Another who just didn't have the right words to teach me. Their instructors directly contradicted each other. I would be told to do something specific by one and the next day another would tell me to ignore what the first instructor had said. Fortunately I came in beyond the absolute beginner level. I was able to spend enough time in the water to progress to where I felt I needed to be to start kiting on my own after the camp. I picked up a few tips on kite control, linking transitions and starting to jump. Mostly, I just treated my camp fee as rental and supervision fee. I stayed out in the water and pushed myself as much as possible. This style of learning doesn't work for everyone. I felt really bad for the absolute beginners. They forced them to body drag in surf over sharp rocks for days on end. They kept claiming that you aren't allowed to try anything with a board until you can body drag upwind. As valuable of a skill as that may be, when the current and wind are headed in the same direction it's quite difficult to achieve. This also shows that they completely fail to recognize that the board would be carried down the beach by the current as well as blown in the same direction by the wind. As a result, you DO NOT have to be able to body drag upwind extensively to get your board back. Simply staying even with the beach will allow your board to drift back in front of you for relaunch. I've taken lessons with other companies before this and they put a board in my hands on the first day so that I could see how all the different pieces of the puzzle come together. Watching 1/2 the students spend 6 days in a kiteboarding camp without ever getting access to the board was appalling. Intermediate to advanced riders might be able to get something from this company if you have the right instructor. I wouldn't recommend them to beginners under any circumstance."
"KGB is a fantastic option, it is not easy to rent kitesurfing equipment in the bay area. I went out twice with them, once at the Emeryville location and a second time at the Brisbane location. KGB offered jetski support, it was great to go downwind without the worry of coming back. I went to San Francisco from work and wanted to kiteboard in the bay area. Didn't want to bring equipment all the way from the east coast. I now look forward to more business trips!"
