If you’re interested in learning guitar, we highly recommend Kale! We found out about Kale’s studio from a flyer in a West Philly cafe. We had been thinking about music lessons for our then 3-year-old son. We weren’t necessarily wanting to learn the guitar, or to come to West Philly for lessons, but I believe the most important thing is having a connection with a great teacher. So on a whim we took Kale’s first free lesson, and we loved it and made the commitment, and haven’t regretted it for a second. Kale has an amazing ability to connect with students of any age, and it has been amazing for us to see our young son develop a respect for his teacher and the instrument, and an enjoyment of making music and making progress through practice. His relationship with him is distinct from any relationship he has with his daycare teachers or his parents. It’s a rich enhancement of his overall view of the world and himself. It’s been nine months, and we’re now getting more involved in the gr...

Kale Good has been my 8-year old son's guitar instructor for just over a year. Kale is an excellent teacher! He gets to understand each child and how they learn best while still using the Suzuki method of teaching. He makes it fun with "challenge games", he's knowledgeable, he's patient and he treats each child with respect and courtesy. I'm thrilled and feel blessed to have found Kale to be my child's instructor.

My 11-year-old daughter has been taking guitar with Kale for about a year and a half now, and I've been very happy with our experience with him. (I can't speak for my kid, but she seems to like it, too. She practices moderately often and never complains about trekking over to West Philly by bus for her lessons.) Kale's great with kids--he's engaging, patient, and thoughtful. Every lesson, I can tell he's working to put himself in my daughter's shoes to understand what she's getting and what she's not. And Kale's not one of those teachers who's only interested in teaching technical skills. He helps my kid to think musically--playing interval-hearing games and such.

I have always wanted to learn guitar, so I found Kale on google and decided to go for it. My first lesson was free and I've been hooked ever since! I worked with Andrew, Kale's assistant. Kale has been great to do business with. He is very kind, responsive, and attentive to my needs and concerns as a student. Andrew has been a phenomenal teacher - he is the best!! I have never played guitar before and he is knowledgeable, patient, and fun to learn with! I enjoy coming to lessons early and hearing him rock out in the studio room by himself. I am an adult beginner (have never picked up a guitar in my life) & these guys have been great.

Neither my wife nor I are very musically inclined, but when my son showed interest in playing the guitar we wanted to find a good local option that could provide a worthwhile experience. Teaching my 5-year son was a challenge from the start. While he insisted on trying to learn the guitar, he would often shut down at Kale's lessons. Kale remained persistent, patient, and supportive throughout as we all tried many different games and strategies to engage my son. After a break through and a year later my son is engaged and making good progress. (Stickers and a reward system did the trick!) My son looks forward to lessons, practices at home, and enjoys listening and playing music. Most importantly, my son is having fun, while learning good fundamentals from a strong musician and committed teacher.

His relationship with him is distinct from any relationship he has with his daycare teachers or his parents. It’s a rich enhancement of his overall view of the world and himself. It’s been nine months, and we’re now getting more involved in the group lessons — these, and the recitals, have proven really great for inspiring our son and making him feel like part of a bigger thing. I think my favorite thing about our lessons is to see Kale meet our son where he is at each time and then find a way to learn more about himself at the same time as learning more about music — quite a feat given that it can be hard to get a four-year-old to do much of anything if they’re not in the right mood. One other thing: we've had a complicated schedule in recent months, and Kale has been a mensch about accommodating us when we needed to be absent or to change a lesson time. He is good at setting clear expectations in his studio policies, but he has been humane and flexible to the extent possible."
