"Itchi Gitchi Ya Ya (BP7) - I’m missing the 5 stars, a lot of ppl give 5 , but I did not see it. being the house structure is over years old, it does look nice structurally, but needs maintenance in several areas; the plumbing is horrible and if you can’t see from the pictures, the tub backs up when taking a shower. Philadelphia is muggy, sticky and humid, Ugh! Hot water was not consistent nor did it make it past 2 ppl showering one after another. Also, if you use the hot water at 3 am, it may burn your skin. The A/C unit was struggling and the room had hot sticky humid feeling. Again, see the picture as maintenance is ignored on this A/C unit. Way too much trees & shrubs imposed on your walkway’s and if you like bee’s, there plenty of them pollinating within inches of the front entrance. If you’ve ever been stung, you’ll understand why I’m giving details. There’s a big disconnect between the local Philadelphia establishment and corporate. We attempted to contact Akwaaba with questions via email, but no response. Once we arrived, we were told there a small business and unless you’re customer they don’t have the manpower to respond to the many emails and inquiries. Once I did book and sent the email as requested within there many instructions, I received no response. I also sent a follow up email on March xx, with another question and no response. Following there instructions on there 3 party website, when we called the phone number listed; we were told just to show up between the times listed. No need to call, they do not patch you through to the local facility. 2 days prior to arrival Akwaaba called a few times, stating they need to know what time will we arrive. Parking is $ a day, but I chose to park on the street, because I need to see if I missed this miscellaneous fee. Street parking is limited and there are restrictions between . We went into this blind and based on reviews, but all reviews are not what they seem!"

"I had a amazing time last weekend to celebrate my Birthday Weekend Celebration. It was my first time visiting Philly and I am so glad I choose to stay at Akwaaba! I had wonderful Innkeeper named Rafyah. She wonderful when I step into the Inn and when I left. Her personality and hospitality made my weekend one to remember. Did I mention she is chef that can throw it down in the kitchen!! Her food was amazing and portion of food was spot on. It made feel like I was eating 5 star home cook meal. The place amazing as well the room was very spacious and each room had its own theme to the artist that is from Philly.!! It’s a must to go and be there for yourself. You will not regret it. Definitely wish I stay another day."

"What an amazing experience. This was our first bed and breakfast stay and we will definitely be coming back! Our innkeeper Rafyah was so friendly and hospitable. She called us the morning we were meant to check in and gave us her number to contact during the duration of our stay. Rafyah was super attentive to our needs and went above and beyond to provide us with anything we needed. And breakfast was, without hyperbole, the tastiest breakfast I have ever tasted. We stayed in the Like It's Golden room, which was so well decorated and clean. The beds were so nice we were asking Rafyah at breakfast what type of mattress they used. I cannot express enough how happy we were with our stay. Definitely give this spot a visit and support an amazing black owned business."

"Book and read this on the way there. I had a fabulous time! Rafyah (housekeeper) is an angel. She greeted me at the door. Took my bag to my room and gave me a complementary glass of wine. Made me feel like royalty. It was my first stay at a BNB (I was solo) I thought I heard something (haunted house style) and she reassured me that there was nothing. She was totally patient with me. Literally made me feel better. I calmed down, went to bed and woke up to a 5 star … 7 star breakfast. Hot French toast with a fruit melody: sautéed pears, bananas, strawberries and diced walnuts. Fresh juice, I can go on and on. You are not going to find this level of comfort, style, treatment anywhere else in Philly. I assure you that. I love hotels too. I only stay in 5 star + and ya know what? I’ll be back here for sure. Oh and all of the rooms have different themes, definitely a must see in person. Beautiful Philly gem."
